Time for another hard fought new van battle, this time from the category of small vans! With 10's of new vans to choose from including two from the ever popular Ford vans, the Transit Courier and Transit Connect, the small van segment is incredibly competitive! Two of the most attractive options in the compact and small vans category are the Peugeot Bipper and Renault Kangoo, which of these small vans should you choose?
Peugeot Bipper Introduction
The Peugeot Bipper is an agile small van that Peugeot vans have ensured handles like a passenger car. Designed for the daily rigour of urban deliveries, the Peugeot Bipper easily handles multi-storey car parks, while having practical features that ensure loading and unloading are made easy, wherever you are!
Renault Kangoo Introduction
The Renault Kangoo is the smallest van in the Renault vans range, but has a number of clever and practical features to suit the requirements of your business. The Kangoo really makes the most of its load volume with up to 3.0 cubic metres on standard models.
New van battle - vital statistics
Enough of the polite introductions, it's time to find out all we need to know about these two new vans. Vansdirect investigates the dimensions, weights, fuel economy and power of both of these new vans!
Both small vans, but payload still remains important. The maximum payload found on either of these new vans can be found on 90ps ML20 energy versions of the Renault Kangoo, with the ability to carry an impressive 800kg, most other models of the Kangoo can carry between 640-650kg. The Bipper can carry 660kg across the range, no match for the single 800kg on offer with the 90ps ML20 Kangoo.
Payload: Bipper 0 Kangoo 1
Now let's take a look at the dimensions of both new vans: What may make this somewhat difficult is that the Renault Kangoo is available in two lengths, whereas the Bipper is only available in the one. The Peugeot Bipper is available with a loadspace length of 1523mm in comparison with 1476mm on the Kangoo, however the Kangoo has the option of the second length giving 1862mm of load length. 2-0 to the Kangoo.
Load Length: Bipper 0 Kangoo 2
We've looked at length, now let's look at width of both new vans! The highest width between the wheel arches is 1473mm on the Bipper, compared with 1218mm on the Kangoo. The Bipper pulls one back!
Load Length: Bipper 1 Kangoo 2
Now Length and width have been examined, what about height? The tallest load compartment can be found in the Peugeot van, at 1178mm in height, the Renault van in comparison is 1129mm tall. The Bipper equalises, 2-2!
Load Height: Bipper 2 Kangoo 2
Now it's time to talk engines, with small vans fuel economy is vital. The Bipper can achieve up to 62.8 miles to the gallon, impressive but this is beaten by the 65.7 miles to the gallon offered on ML19 75ps and 90ps versions of the Kangoo. 3-2 to the Kangoo.
Fuel Economy: Bipper 2 Kangoo 3
Still on the theme of engines, but now with emissions. The Bipper releases 115 g/km across the new van range, whereas the Kangoo releases 119 g/km on specific models. The Bipper equalises again. 3-3.
Emissions: Bipper 3 Kangoo 3
Time for our final and deciding category .. Trim Specifications. Both excellent small vans, but what features are fitted with both new vans? The Kangoo is available in two trim levels, Business and Business+. Top Spec Business+ models get features including: rear parking sensors, electric front windows and manual air conditioning. The Bipper however is available in 3 trim levels: S, SE and Professional, whereas Top Spec Professional models get: air con and bluetooth. We are slightly more impressed with the options available on the Bipper, hence the Bipper nicks the winner, 4-3!
