Mercedes EQV
Set to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, Mercedes vans have officially unveiled their second all-electric EQ vehicle in the form of the Mercedes EQV luxury passenger van. The fully electric Mercedes van will be powered by a 100kWh battery which will deliver 201ps and 362Nm of torque. The new Mercedes van will offer a provisional range of 252 miles, whilst Mercedes vans have revealed that the new van will charge from 10 to 80 percent of its capacity in "less than an hour" using a rapid public charging point.
As is the case for the new Mercedes EQC SUV, the new Mercedes van is based on an existing Mercedes platform rather than bespoke underpinnings and as such it will be built alongside the standard Mercedes Vito van at the Mercedes vans plant in Vitoria, Northern Spain.
Won't the batteries affect space in the back?
Due to the size of the new van, Mercedes vans have managed to place the batteries below the floor, claiming that this setup has no impact on the amount of interior space. UK vans will all be long wheelbase models with eight seats as standard, whilst other markets will get a choice of wheelbases and seat configurations.
The models get the latest Mercedes MBUX infotainment system which has been refined for the new Mercedes van. The system uses a 10-inch screen which owners can customise to show myriad information such as available charge, energy flow and consumption. The new Mercedes van also uses the same 'Hey Mercedes' voice control system found on the Mercedes A-Class.
Different driving modes
To make the most of the available charge, Mercedes vans offer the EQV with different driving modes. The E+ setting uses the navigation system of the new van and programmed route to optimise the van's parameters and maximise the range available, there's also adjustable recuperation settings to capture energy which otherwise would have been lost. In its strongest level, Mercedes vans boast that it is possible to drive the new van without use of the brake pedal.
When will we know more about the new Mercedes van?
Exact specifications of the new van will be released at a later date, however Mercedes vans have revealed that the new van will get air suspension and unique 18-inch wheels as well as the previously mentioned MBUX infotainment system. There'll also be a number of EQ-specific styling modifications including a blacked-out radiator grille, midnight blue leather trim and rose gold accents.
