Ford Transit and Transit Custom hybrids set for 2019!

The reveal of the new Ford Transit is nearly upon us, with Ford vans also confirming the facelifted model will be available with a hybrid powertrain!

New Ford Transit van

Ford vans have confirmed that the new facelifted two-tonne Ford Transit van will be presented at the upcoming Hannover Commercial Vehicles show on the 20th September 2018, they have also confirmed that the new Ford Transit van will be available with a 48V mild hybrid powertrain. Ford vans are not stopping there, with Hannover promising to be a particularly busy event for the brand, they are also set to give a public debut to the smaller Ford Transit Custom PHEV in final production form. Both new vans are set to launch in 2019!

What can we expect from the new Ford Transit van?

Ford vans have revealed that the new updated two-tonne Transit van will be available with the combination of more economical 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engines, an increased maximum payload, new connectivity features which include on-board 4G, a refreshed interior which features new storage spaces and a subtle front-end redesign similar to the other vans in the Ford Transit family.

Mild Hybrid system

The 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine will be available with a 48-volt mild hybrid system when hooked to a manual transmission. The system recuperates energy through braking and stores it in the lithium ion battery, which is consequently used to help drive the van's engine and power systems on-board, saving fuel.

Ford Transit Custom PHEV

Alongside the new facelifted Transit van will be the production model of the Transit Custom PHEV, the PHEV is equipped with the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder petrol engine which acts as a range extender. Located under the cargo bay floor is a lithium ion battery pack, Ford vans claim that the new van has a pure electric range of 31 miles and an overall range in excess of 300 miles once the engine comes into force to recharge the batteries. The hybrid system has no effect on load volume, with Ford vans revealing that the PHEV gets the same interior modifications as the standard Transit Custom van but also gets instrumentation which is unique.
