Shortlist for International Van of the Year 2019 revealed
The 2019 International Van of the Year (IVOTY) award will be fiercely contested by five of the best new vans on offer, with seven different models nominated for the award!
International Van of the Year 2019 shortlist
New Mercedes Sprinter
The largest van in the Mercedes vans range has won the prestigious title once before and the all-new model is expected to do well this time around. The new Mercedes Sprinter is available with a new front-wheel-drive option, in conjunction with a redesigned interior and increased levels of connectivity, the Mercedes Sprinter is an excellent all-round package. Mercedes vans have labelled the all-new Sprinter as the most connected van the world has ever seen and will be hoping it comes out on top in the IVOTY for only the second time.
Renault Master Z.E.
Renault vans have previously had success with a much smaller electric van in 2012 in the form of the Renault Kangoo Z.E. At the other end of the electric van scale is the incredibly capable Renault Master electric van, with a 33kWh battery pack delivering a claimed range of 124 miles. The Master is set to face increased competition in the large electric van market over coming months with both the Volkswagen e-Crafter and Mercedes e-Sprinter vans set to join the market.
New Ford Transit Courier
The smallest van in the Ford Transit family has recently received a facelift which included revisions to the powertrains, a redesigned front end and updated technology, further modernising an excellent small van which offers a car-like driving experience. 1.9 cubic metre load volume and payloads have been unaltered.
New Ford Transit Connect
Another of the Ford Transit family to have recently received a facelift, the Ford Transit Connect small van has also received revisions similar to that of the Ford Transit Courier, with revised powertrains, a new front end and updated technology. The updates to the Transit Courier and Transit Connect vans follow a facelift to the UK's best-selling Ford Transit Custom van earlier this year, with the Ford Transit also set to receive a face-lift next year. Ford vans have had an incredibly busy year revising and tweaking their new vans, time will tell whether these revisions will see the Transit Courier or Transit Connect crowned International Van of the Year 2019.
New Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo
The last entry on the IVOTY shortlist are three of one, in the form of the new Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo small vans created by PSA. The Vauxhall Combo which was previously based on the Fiat Doblo Cargo has now joined small van segment mainstays in the form of the Berlingo and Partner courtesy of PSA purchasing Vauxhall. The result is three small vans based on an all-new chassis with passenger car levels of sophistication and comfort.
Close battle expected
With a number excellent new vans, facelifts and new technology on show, the battle is expected to be intense for the highly prestigious award. A panel of 25 IVOTY jury members each give 12 votes to the vans, with the maximum being seven to any one van, with it being anyone's guess who'll come out on top for 2019!
