Renault has revealed details of the three new models that it will launch in 2026 as it moves into a new era in terms of its light commercial vehicle offerings.
The new models have been developed as a result of a collaboration with Flexis - an independent company founded by Renault Group, Volvo Group and CMA CGM Group – and will be based around a ‘skateboard’ platform, which features a low floor height and offers flexibility that can be used across a range of different vehicles.
The Trafic E-Tech Electric will be the fourth generation of a popular model that was first introduced by Renault back in 1980, and is a one-box design with short front overhang and extended wheelbase to maximise interior space and provide a turning circle similar to a Renault Clio.
Design cues in place include a backlit upper strip on the front of the vehicle as well as lower body protection running along the sides to give an impression of strength, whilst a height of under 1.90m will allow for easy access to underground car parks for those working in urban environments.
The second new van will mark the rebirth of a model that Renault first produced in the 1950s and 60s in the shape of the Goelette E-Tech electric, which – like the original – has been designed to meet the varied needs of potential customers.
The Golette will be available as a chassis cab, box van and tipper and whilst visually similar to the Trafic from the front, features a totally different rear end that has been created to accommodate ‘a virtually infinite range of fittings and customised features’,
The new range will be completed by the unique-looking Estafette E-Tech Electric, which is another reboot of a van that was previously built by Renault back in the 1960s and was ultimately replaced by the Trafic.
Based on a concept vehicle that was revealed last year, the Estafette stands at 2.6m in height to allow a person to move around the interior with ease, but is just 5.27m long and 1.92m wide to deal with navigating city streets.
All three vehicles will be produced at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France and are due to go on sale in 2026, with further details to be revealed in the coming months in terms of range and pricing.
