Plug-In Van Grant Extended Into 2026 After Government Funding Boost
The Plug-In Van Grant initiative created to encourage business drivers to convert to electric vans will be extended into 2026 after receiving a major boost in government funding, it has been confirmed.
The scheme, which has been in place since 2012, had been due to come to an end in April but a £120m cash injection ensures customers will continue to receive significant savings when purchasing a PHEV van (Plug-In Electric Vehicle).
The grant will remain unchanged, which means beneficiaries can receive grants of up to £2,500 in the purchase of small electric vans weighing up to 2.5 tonnes. This increases to as much as £5,000 for those buying larger electric vans or BEV (Battery Electric Van).
Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood said: “From van drivers and businesses, to drivers with accessibility needs, bikers and cabbies, today we are making it easier, faster and cheaper for people to switch to electric vehicles.
“By making the transition to zero emissions a success, we’re helping to drive growth all over the UK, putting more money in people’s pockets and rebuilding Britain to deliver our Plan for Change.”
In addition to the savings available to assist with the upfront cost, electric vans offer drastically lower running costs with economical home charging slashing £750 off annual ownership when compared to petrol or diesel.
The UK’s infrastructure is also increasing with 74,000 public chargers in operation, including 20,000 set up in the past 12 months.
Finally, by committing to a vehicle with zero tailpipe emissions, such a switch is a huge step towards a greener more sustainable future for the entire world.
