New Peugeot Expert van
Introduction
The Peugeot Expert van has been on the market for more than twenty years, however a complete overhaul in 2016 made the new Peugeot van more attractive, comfortable, more generously equipped with technology and more efficient than ever before, with a new platform taking large amounts of credit for this.
The medium van clearly has a recipe for success, winning the WhatVan? Medium Van of the Year award for 2017 and 2018 alongside the Citroen Dispatch and Toyota Proace sister vans and such is the quality of the Expert, the platform is now also used by the new Vauxhall Vivaro van!
Interior and cabin
The cabin of the new Peugeot van is spacious, with a number of useful storage spaces including two glove boxes on the passenger side, an A4 compartment at the top of the dashboard, two cupholders, large door bins on both sides and a luggage compartment beneath the bench seat all adding up to an additional 49 litres of storage space.
The cabin has a really upmarket feel, with a stylish and desirable interior which provides a comfortable place to spend the majority of your working day. The Moduwork swivelling table (standard on Professional spec models and above) deploys with the central armrest of the van and turns the cab on the medium van into a practical mobile office to keep you working on the go.
Load area
All versions of the new Peugeot Expert van share an impressive 1,400kg maximum payload, the Compact model is the smallest new van in the range offers a staggering 3.3 metre load length in a van that is only 4.6 metres long, thanks to the Moduwork load-through facility which is standard on Professional models up. With the Moduwork facility, the outer passenger seat cushion can be lifted and folded away revealing a large load-through hatch in the bulkhead and a flat floor connected to the load area which adds an extra 1.16-metres of load length.
There are two other length models: Standard and Long, both of which are able to carry three Europallets and an 8x4 sheet as standard with load volumes of 5.8 and 6.6 cubic metres respectively. All new Expert vans come with the same uniform 1.9-metre van height which means that they can tackle the majority of multi-storey car parks with ease.
Access to the load area is made easy by twin sliding side doors and rear doors which open to 180 degrees.
Performance and driving
The new Peugeot van is incredibly comfortable and refined whilst on the road, with very little in terms of cabin noise. Steering of the Expert is very light but precise and very manoeuvrable in the corners with turning circles as nimble as 11.3 metres. The suspension of the van also copes well on all road surfaces and is comfortable and controlled regardless of how much you are carrying in the rear of the van.
The Expert is available with a range of the latest Euro 6.2 compliant diesel engines offering 100ps, 120ps, 150ps and 180ps outputs with a smooth six-speed manual transmission as standard. Each are highly economical, offering fuel economies in excess of 50 miles to the gallon and good levels of performance. Our preference is for the 2.0-litre 120ps unit which offers an excellent balance of power and economy.
Features
Whichever spec of the Peugeot van you opt for you are guaranteed an impressive list of standard features. As standard you receive cruise control, DAB radio, electric windows and Bluetooth. Moving up to Professional spec models (pictured) add air conditioning, rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, 7-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, alarm and Moduwork dual passenger bench seat with load-through.
Top of the range Asphalt models are designed for those who spend the majority of their working days in their vans adding features such as: 17-inch alloys, park assist 180, head-up display, Peugeot Connected 3D navigation, front fog lights and the heavily equipped safety and driver assist packs. There's also standalone Grip models which are not carried through the range and are designed for those who spend large amounts of time on building sites and with the rough and tumble, with increased ground clearance and adapted tyres amongst features designed to withstand the most challenging of tasks.
