Peugeot Boxer gets a new range of engines

Peugeot Boxer gets a new range of engines

Peugeot has added 'BlueHDi' engines to its Boxer van range. The latest update rounds-off Peugeot's roll-out of Euro 6 engines to its light commercial vehicle (LCV) line-up.

The new 2-litre engines are more powerful and economical than their predecessors and thanks to their Euro 6 compliant engines, have improved CO2 emissions.

Peugeot claims that its BlueHDi technology - first introduced on cars in 2013 - is the most effective emissions treatment on the market, breaking down up to 90 percent of NOx and 99.9 percent of the finest particulates. We're assuming that the BlueHDi name is derived from the requirement for AdBlue (an emissions reductant) in the new units as most manufacturers have some sort of variation that includes the word 'blue'.

New engines

Three new engines will be available. The first is a 100ps unit with a max torque of 300Nm, followed by a 130Nm engine that delivers 340Nm and the top-end 160ps engine offering 340Nm. All have improved torque figures compared to the previous generation while the most powerful 160ps unit has gained 10ps on the previous 150ps version.

Also improved are acceleration speeds. In particular, the 110ps unit boasts a 0-62mph acceleration time that's four seconds quicker. Acceleration from 50-80mph gets an even bigger boost - of EIGHT seconds.

Not only do Peugeot claim that the Boxer has the 'most-effective emission treatment' but also a fuel economy of 47mpg from the 130ps version. This would be a record for the large van segment, even more impressive when you consider the drop in CO2 emissions of 30g/km.

New features

Other changes to the range include connectivity enhancements. Choose a 'Professional' model and you'll find a 12v socket, USB connection and a tablet/phone holder. Depending on the model you choose, you can replace the central glove box with a double cup holder along with a storage compartment and a convenient space for a smartphone that includes a USB and Aux-in connection.
