It's now September, and we're pretty much three-quarters of the way through the year. A quick scan of the news reveals that 2016 has been a stellar year for sales of new vans, with over 230,000 sold up to the end of August, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
In recent months, large vans and pickups have enjoyed huge demand. Large vans like the Ford Transit or Mercedes Sprinter are performing well due to the rise in home shopping while pickups are fast becoming the vehicle of choice for beneficiaries of company cars.
But which new vans and brands have sold the most among Vansdirect customers? Read on to find out.
Citroen Berlingo
The ever-popular Citroen Berlingo tops the Vansdirect charts for 2016 having sold the most units. The small van is a popular choice due to its excellent level of standard equipment - at least on Enterprise models. A load volume of 3.3 cubic metres, maximum load length of 3000mm and a 640kg payload are all very competitive for the small van segment.
Ford Transit Custom
There's no way we were getting through this list without a Ford van making an appearance. It's the Ford Transit Custom that takes second place for the year-to-date, as the medium sized van sets a benchmark in the segment. With attractive styling, accommodating capacity, a payload of over a tonne and some excellent technological implementations it's easy to see why the Custom leads the way. There are a few different trim levels, 'Limited' being the best choice for you feature-freaks out there.
Peugeot Boxer
Last (in this list) but not least, the Peugeot Boxer takes 3rd place in our best-sellers chart. The large van has some virtually identical siblings in the Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato, but it's Peugeot's version of this large panel van that has proven to be the most popular with our customers. The 'Professional' trim level adds DAB digital radio, air conditioning, cruise control and rear parking sensors and is the top-spec model.
And the manufacturers .
Ford
Topping yet ANOTHER list, it's Ford. They do have more commercial vehicles than any other manufacturer with no fewer than SIX vans to choose from. They cover pretty much every vehicle segment from compact to pick up. Starting off small you have the Ford Fiestavan, then there's the compact city van, the Transit Courier. Next is the Transit Connect, followed by the Transit Custom and the full-size Transit. If pick-ups are your thing, then there's the Ford Ranger.
Citroen
Bucking the national trend is Citroen, who take second spot in the manufacturers table. Take a look at the national charts and you'll find that Citroen occupy fifth spot behind Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen and Peugeot. However, with an excellent range of new vans including the Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay, Citroen vans are definitely a hit with our customers!
Peugeot
Two bronze medals for Peugeot! The French manufacturer takes the final spot on the podium in terms of both models and manufacturers. Their range is virtually identical to that of Citroen's which goes some way to explaining their popularity with our customers. All four vans in the Peugeot range have a Citroen equivalent, so, for Bipper - see Nemo, for Partner - take a look at the Berlingo, for the Expert see the Dispatch while the Boxer's 'twin' is the Relay. Specifications may differ so it's always a good idea to make sure you know the differences. Luckily for you, we can help!
