New van specification guide - what exactly do you get?
Knowing one model from another is one thing. Knowing your trim levels is quite another. What is a trim level? You know, that unique word you keep seeing attached to different vans - think 'enterprise', 'trend' or 'professional'.
So what exactly do these words mean? They refer to the specific version of a model, and each version includes a different level of equipment as standard. It can be confusing trying to work out what comes with which van, or the difference between a Transit Custom 'Trend' and 'Limited', for example.
Don't worry - we've broken down the main specifications of each model, so you don't have to!
Vauxhall Vivaro - Sportive
Sportive models build on the generous specification of the standard van with many added features, enhanced style accents and even greater levels of comfort. Choosing a Sportive model adds the following features to a Vauxhall Vivaro: body coloured bumpers, mouldings and surrounds, air conditioning, FlexCargo (load-through) bulkhead, dual passenger bench seat with work surface, cruise control with speed limiter, selective door locking, rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights and front fog lights.
Citroen - Enterprise
The Enterprise specification is used across the Citroen van range. As such, not all vans have the same equipment, despite bearing the Enterprise moniker. There are four vans in the range, the Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay. All Enterprise models offer air conditioning, Bluetooth, USB and rear parking sensors at the very least. All excluding the Nemo offer cruise control, DAB radio and a touchscreen while the new Dispatch has an additional specification level, the Enterprise Plus.
Ford - Trend
There are a LOT of vans in the Ford range, so we'll focus on the two most popular - the Transit Custom and the regular old Transit. Both offer the Trend trim level, although it is the 'top-end' specification level for the Transit, while the Custom also has 'Limited'. Anyway, opting for the Trend spec will add front fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers and cruise control to the van.
Ford - Limited
Limited is Ford's top-end specification with the exception of Sport. Its body coloured mouldings, bumpers, handles and mirrors - as well 16 inch alloy wheels - mean that it's a good-looking van in its own right. Other features added with the Limited trim include DAB Radio, USB connectivity, heated front seats and air conditioning.
Volkswagen Transporter - Trendline
Volkswagen's entry-level specification for the Transporter is aptly named Startline. The next level, called Trendline, adds cruise control, a full-height steel bulkhead, body coloured bumpers, mirrors and handles and rear parking sensors. This may not sound like a lot but it's because the entry-level model already includes DAB radio, a dual passenger bench seat, 2 12v sockets and start/stop technology.
Volkswagen - Highline
If the Trendline specification doesn't quite meet your expectations, you can go one higher (ahem!) and go for a Highline model instead. Doing so will get you a Volkswagen Transporter with air conditioning, automatic headlights, front fog lights, body-coloured bumpers, handles and mirrors and alloy wheels.
Peugeot - Professional
Peugeot's 'marquee' trim level is called Professional. The base models actually come with a decent level of equipment as standard, including a full steel bulkhead, DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB. Choosing a Professional model adds air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a touchscreen with integrated navigation (semi-integrated on Partner). Like the Citroen range there are four Peugeot vans and the smallest of which - the Bipper - does not get the same level of equipment as the rest of the range.
Renault Trafic - Business+
Another manufacturer with a very good level of equipment on base models is Renault. Their entry-level models carry the Business name (no + sign!) and come with DAB Radio, Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in, 12v electrical socket, a passenger bench seat and a full steel bulkhead. Business+ models add air conditioning, a work surface, load-through bulkhead, body-coloured bumpers and rear parking sensors.
Renault Trafic - Sport
Renault's top-end trim level takes things to another level. As well as everything mentioned above, by choosing a Sport model the Trafic is kitted out with automatic headlights and wipers, MediaNav navigation with 7" inch touchscreen, alloy wheels, front fog lights, cruise control and body-coloured mirrors.
