Ford Ranger 2019 facelift
The UK's best-selling new pick-up, the Ford Ranger has been updated for 2019, with the main change being the introduction of a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, first seen in the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit vans. The 2.0-litre EcoBlue variant replaces both the 2.2-litre TDCi and five cylinder 3.2-litre TDCi engine from the Ford Ranger Wildtrak pick-up. Fear not however, the new engine is more powerful than both outgoing engines as well as being more efficient, impressive eh?
Engines
In total there are three EcoBlue diesel engines available: a single-turbo version with 130ps or 170ps, or a twin-turbocharged alternative with 210ps. The twin-turbocharged model is the engine which will be utilized in the forthcoming Ford Ranger Raptor flagship pick-up. The 210ps figure is a 10ps improvement on the outgoing 3.2 TDCi engine, with torque also up 30Nm to 500Nm, ensuring towing is easier than ever before.
New transmission
All new Ford Ranger pick-ups come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, however the brand's latest 10-speed automatic transmission from the Ford Mustang and Ford F-150 US market pick-up is also available with the two most powerful engines in the range. All of the updates assist in boosting efficiency by as much as nine percent over outgoing Ford Ranger models, with fuel economy figures ranging from 30.7mpg for the twin-turbo to 35.3mpg for the 130ps option, very competitive in the pick-up truck segment.
New safety technology
In conjunction with the new engine and transmission, the new Ford Ranger facelifted model also gets a new range of safety technology taken from the Ford passenger car range. This includes collision and pedestrian detection as standard and an intelligent speed limiter, this automatically slows the pick-up if the on-board camera detects a lower speed limit than the current cruise control setting. Also included are features such as: lane assist, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and trailer stability control.
Visual changes
Visually the facelift changes are more subtle, however there is a revised front bumper and grille design in conjunction with new paint options, whilst top spec models also get LED daytime running lights. The Ford Ranger Wildtrak model still gets the Saber Orange exclusive colour option and a dark grey finish for the grill, exterior trim and wheels to help it stand out significantly from the rest of the line-up.
When will we see the new Ford Ranger pick-up?
The new Ford van is available NOW in Regular, Super and Double Cab body styles, as well as the usual XLT, Limited and Wildtrak trim levels. The Ranger Raptor pick-up is expected to not be far behind.
