A look at the new Volkswagen Transporter T28 Highline
The Volkswagen Transporter Panel Van T28 Highline SWB 2.0-litre TDI 102PS is the most compact panel van (in the short wheelbase variant) in the Transporter range.
Less than 4.9metres in length, Volkswagen's Transporter is perfectly suited to urban delivery work. Despite its compact profile, the Volkswagen Transporter offers a load volume of 5.8 cubic metres even in the short wheelbase, low roof variant. As an added bonus, parking in most multi-storey car parks is no problem. If you've been looking at smaller vans, then it's worth considering the Volkswagen Transporter - why deprive yourself of the load space?
Factor in the audible front and rear parking sensors and a sliding door on the nearside and the Volkswagen Transporter makes a strong case to be your van of choice for city work.
Volkswagen Transporter features
In fact, the Volkswagen Transporter Highline boasts a strong line-up of standard equipment. As well as the aforementioned sliding side door and front and rear parking sensors, there are alloy wheels, a Thatcham alarm, air conditioning, a multi-function steering wheel, daytime running lights, additional fog lights, retractable armrests on the multi-adjustable driver's seat, an infotainment system with Bluetooth and Aux-in, cruise control, body-coloured bumpers and housing, heat insulating glass, ABS, post-collision braking, electronic differential lock and traction control. Phew!
The Volkswagen Transporter T28 is an efficient motorway cruiser, offering a comfortable, car-like ride for three passengers and features cruise control that's very simple to operate. The cabin is spacious and airy with a range of storage options including cup holders and trays.
Volkswagen Transporter Performance
Even though the Volkswagen Transporter's 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine delivers just 102PS of power, the 250Nm of torque and a relatively light gross weight of 2.8-tonnes means that getting up to speed is easy and smooth.
Fuel economy figures are usually a bone of contention among van drivers, and while the manufacturers' combined economy figures may be difficult to reach, road testers are aware that the specified 'urban' economy figure is the closest a van user will get to the manufacturer's claimed fuel economy. The T28 is very close, recording 37mpg over 600 miles even with some pacey driving and a full load thanks to Volkswagen's BlueMotion technology - made up of low rolling resistance tyres, start/stop technology and regenerative braking.
All told, the Volkswagen Transporter is a handsome van that's perfectly suited to those looking for a sophisticated, classy vehicle to reflect their business.
