Kia PV5 Cargo Launched Boasting 249-Mile Range, Business Specific Tech

Kia PV5 Cargo Launched Boasting 249-Mile Range, Business Specific Tech

The all-electric Kia PV5 has received its official world premiere boasting a 249-mile range, smart business-focused technology and expansive conversion options.

The brand-new model, which heralds Kia’s first-ever commercial vehicle effort, is developed around the firm’s PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) philosophy and will see Cargo, Chassis Cab and Passenger variants spun off from its architecture.

Based on Kia’s celebrated E-GMP modular ‘skateboard’ platform, the PV5 Cargo differs from most electric van rivals by being designed entirely around an EV architecture, whereas most rivals – such as the such as the Ford E-Transit Custom, Renault Trafic E-Tech and Volkswagen e-Transporter – have had running gear adapted around existing mechanicals.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Powertrain, Range & Battery

This more streamlined vehicle development allows for fewer of the compromises associated with combining electric power with the weight and extended dimensions of a commercial vehicle.

As such, the Kia PV5 boasts a competitive range of 400km (249 miles) from the largest 71kWh version of its three battery size options. This compares competitively versus the similarly positioned Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo (79kWh, 276 miles) and favourably with more conventional rivals as the E-Transit Custom (209 miles), Trafic E-Tech (200 miles) and e-Transporter (201 miles).

The Kia PV5 Cargo will also be offered with 51.5kWh and 43.3kWh battery options, each of which drives a 120kW front motor producing 250Nm of torque.

The PV5 features a fast-charging time of 10-80% in 30 minutes.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Specifications & Dimensions

Three specifications of the Kia PV5 Cargo will be available - Standard, Long and High-Roof. The PV5 Long is measured at 4,695mm length and a 1,895mm width.

The High-Roof version, meanwhile, features a clever Walk-Through option that features a sinking passenger seat and a sliding partition to allow for convenient access to the load bay.

The 5100-litre cargo capacity can accommodate two Euro pallets, while the low cargo room step height of just 419mm is intended to improve the ease of access for loading and unloading.

The V2L (Vehicle-To-Load) function provides convenient access to power, while Kia’s data collection is designed to enhance the productivity of PV5 customers’ fleets.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Conversion Options

In addition to the three specifications available, the Kia PV5 Chassis Cab has been developed for a range of versatile commercial and accessible needs. Using what Kia brands ‘Flexible Body System’, it says the modular assembly of body components is ‘akin to assembling a puzzle’.

As such, the PV5 can be adapted into Crew, Drop Side, Box Van, Freezer Box and Light Camper through a array of conversion options available.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Technology, Features & Interior

As a manufacturer at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution in the passenger car market, Kia will be applying its strengths for technological innovation to its shift into the commercial sector.

As such, the PV5 Cargo stands out from its conventional rivals with array of smart technology and OTA (over-the-air) connectivity features tailored specifically for providing assistance, improving efficiency and lowering costs in the business sector.

Kia has integrated Android Automotive Operating System-based in-vehicle infotainment to allow for a wider range of app services and improve useability for business partners, while a newly announced collaboration with Korean manufacturing powerhouse Samsung will allow for vehicles to be connected to one another, ensuring robust data collection and sharing to the benefit of the workplace ecosystem.

This data driven approach, according to Kia, will reduce accident rates and repair costs, enable predictive maintenance and minimise downtime.

Behind the wheel, the Kia PV5 Cargo features a minimalist design approach with a large 7-inch instrument cluster and 12.9-inch navigation screen handling most of the controls and functionality.

When Can I Buy The Kia PV5?

Sales of the Kia PV5 Cargo will begin during the second half of the year for Korea and Europe, with other markets to follow suit towards the end of 2025 and into 2026. Pre-orders will begin this summer.
