Kia PV5 Cargo Heralds Firm's Debut In Electric Van Sector
The all-new Kia PV5 Cargo has been formally revealed to officially herald the Korean manufacturer’s much-anticipated debut in the commercial sector.
Revealed alongside the Kia PV5 Passenger, the PV5 Cargo is being previewed ahead of its public world premiere at the Kia EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain next week.
While exact specifications and dimensions are being kept under wraps until then, the images reveal a bold design concept intended to maximise practicality and useability developed around an electric platform while still cutting a distinctive dash aesthetically.
Taking inspiration from the Kia EV9 SUV, the PV5 Cargo is headlined by the firm’s latest signature design treatment with technical lighting integrating into the silhouetted A-pillar and bonnet.
The blunt front-end houses the charging port, while the short overhang allows for a long wheelbase and a noticeably large window area, both in terms of forward vision and passenger doors.
The PV5 signals a high-profile new entry into the commercial market by Kia, which as part of the Hyundai Motor Group, ranked as the sixth largest car company in the world last year.
Having already established itself as one of the forerunners of the electric vehicle movement in the passenger car segment, Kia is turning its attention to the commercial sector under a new global business strategy branded Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV).
It means the PV5 is set to represent just the first in an expansive range of “PV” models with larger PV7 and PV9 passenger and cargo van models understood to be in the pipeline.
The Kia PV5 Passenger and PV5 Cargo are set to roll out worldwide this spring and are expected in include UK sales.
