Previously known as SsangYong, the manufacturer has recently rebranded to KGM. The KGM Musso pick-up offers a mixture of both rugged utility and quality comfort, which makes it a great all-rounder for work or play.
Driving
Available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the Musso feels capable and strong whether on an errand in town or towing at work. Choose to pair this with either a comfortable automatic or a relatively engaging manual gearbox. The automatic gearbox has its advantages. Namely, 3,500kg of towing capacity over a still impressive 3,200kg with the manual option.
Suspension is designed to keep you stable with heavy loads, so it is rather stiff. This choice of suspension also keeps the Musso stable in the corners, regardless of the weight in the pick-up bed.
Practicality
Standard length Musso models come with a maximum payload of 1,105kg. They’ll take a European cargo pallet between the wheelarch protrusions in the load bed. A great bonus is that there’s no complicated maths of calculating maximum payload while towing. It can carry both its maximum payload and maximum towing weight simultaneously.
A number of trims are available, which makes choosing the ideal model a lot easier for customers. The Musso comes in entry-level EX, mid-range Rebel, and high-end Saracen and Saracen+. The Saracen+ trim isn’t just a luxury option, it’s the most well-equipped choice in terms of gear. If you’d like a longer wheelbase model, the Rhino trims are for you.
The load bed comes with a plastic bedliner and a handy 12V socket in the load bay, along with a few hooks. There are plenty of optional extras you can choose from when buying the KGM Musso, to tailor the pick-up to your exact tastes.
Interior
The interior materials are of higher quality than you’d expect for the price point. All buttons are easily accessible too. These little touches make driving the Musso all the more pleasant.
The Musso excels in head and leg room in front and back, with a wide-set cabin for extra space. Even the helpful high seating position doesn’t make you lose the feeling of space in the cabin.
A range-topping 9.2-inch infotainment system is offered with the higher trim levels like Saracen and Rhino. As standard you get a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. If you’d like a middle ground the mid-range Musso comes with an 8-inch touchscreen and connects with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Buying and owning
While the Musso on EX trim level is a great price, the Rebel trim is the best value for money. Especially if choosing to use the pick-up as a working vehicle. You get more gear thrown in like roof bars, bigger wheels and even comfort features like a heated steering wheel and front seats.
If the most comfortable drive is more your priority, the Saracen trims and top Rhino trim are the best to go for. Leather seats, cruise control, heated seats front and back and privacy glass are just a few of the features that come as standard.
