The new Ford Transit Connect receives a number of styling updates, including a new three-bar grille, a redesigned bonnet and slimmer headlights. Higher spec models will also receive xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights in conjunction with a more aerodynamic lower face and front spoiler. Like the current Ford Transit Connect model that it is replacing, the new Transit Connect van will be available in a choice of short and long wheelbases, while payloads will range between 520 and 890kg.
Ford vans have also updates the 1.5 TDCI engine, transforming it into a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel. Ford vans have yet to reveal any details regarding the fuel economy of the new van, however they have promised lower running costs and Euro 6.2 emission standards, which will mean lower CO2 and NOx emissions. The new Transit Connect will also be available with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, this engine has been redesigned from the previous model to feature cylinder deactivation technology which will allow the engine to work on two cylinders under low-loads, improving fuel efficiency.
Both engines available with the new Ford Transit Connect will be fitted with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, however Ford vans have now given the Transit Connect the option of a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
New Ford Transit Courier van
The new Ford Transit Courier van will also be available with the selection of a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine or a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, in conjunction with exterior changes that mirror the larger Ford Transit Connect van. The updates to the Transit Courier have been implemented with the intention of improving fuel costs even further, with diesel versions of the new van being fitted with an active grille shutter system to increase the amount of airflow to the engine and reduce aero-drag by the vents opening in the front grille of the new van.
Payloads on the new Ford Transit Courier van will range between 500kg and 590kg, slightly less than the 660kg on the model it is replacing. Fitted as standard will be a single side sliding side door, with Kombi models including a row of three seats in the rear and side doors that are glazed.
Ford vans have also given the new Ford Transit Courier van a 'Limited' Spec option which is currently available on Ford Transit Custom and Transit Connect models, giving an alternative option to the Sport model at the very top of the range.
Updated Interiors
Both new Ford vans will receive updated interiors, with the most significant enhancement being the optional six-inch colour touchscreen in conjunction with Ford Sync 3 infotainment and navigation system. A whole host of safety technology and features are also expected to be included in both new Ford vans, making their way over from the new Ford Transit Custom 2018 model, including: autonomous cruise control, automatic emergency city braking, lane keep assist and blind sport monitoring.
