Ford vans have been around a long time, stretching right back to 1965 with the birth of the original Ford Transit van. Today, Ford remain one of the main players in the commercial vehicle industry - regularly topping sales charts with their great range of vans from the Transit Courier to the attractive Ranger pickup.
Vansdirect currently has a number of models in stock at reduced prices, including Britain's favourite van - the Ford Transit Custom!
Ford Transit Custom deals
The Ford Transit Custom has been the UK's best-selling van for years now, and still tops each and every monthly sales chart without fail - even today. This year alone, over 30,000 units have been registered - more than double the nearest competitor, ironically the bigger Ford Transit.
With a minimum 6 cubic metres of usable loadspace, room for up to 3 Europallets and a maximum payload of 1399kg (340 series, SWB models) it's easy to see why this medium van is so popular. What's more, go above a base model and you'll find that the Custom is very well-specced. Limited models include body coloured exterior parts, alloy wheels, digital radio, air conditioning, a Thatcham category 1 alarm, front and rear parking sensors and automatic wipers and headlights, among others.
The van of choice for bigger working teams, the Ford Transit Custom DCiV (Double cab in van) seats up to five passengers and the driver while retaining a usable loadspace of 3.5 cubic metres. That's more than most small vans.
Getting in and out is easy, with sliding doors on both sides of the van. Opt for a longer wheelbase model and you'll find that it can still accommodate two Europallets behind the bulkhead.
As far as pickups go, the Ford Ranger is one of the best. So what happens when you take a quality Ford pickup truck and cram it with luxury features? You get the Wildtrak.
Nothing is left to chance. From the 18inch machined alloy wheels to the titanium front grille, the aluminium roof rails to the aerodynamic sports bar, the touchscreen system to the rear view camera or the leather seats to the 'Wildtrak' stitching this pickup just feels premium.
It's not all features and appearances, the Ranger is a functioning workhorse in its own right. A one-tonne payload is complemented by a 3.2-tonne towing capacity which means the Ranger offers over FOUR TONNES of carrying capacity. This huge load is driven by a 3.2-litre 200ps diesel engine with 470Nm torque.
One of the oldest vans on the market, the Ford Transit is tried and tested. Picking up from where the Transit Custom leaves off, the Transit's minimum loadspace is 10 cubic metres - enough to carry four Europallets.
The Transit features a dual front passenger seat, which means that three people (including the driver) can ride up front. With only two trim levels, there may not be much choice in terms of features. However, top spec Trend models include front fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlight sand wipers, cruise control and a leather trimmed steering wheel and gear knob.
Sometimes, a standard panel van just doesn't cut it. When you need something more accessible, or more capable - a converted chassis cab is usually the answer. From Tippers to Dropsides, the Transit can be converted into all manner of specialist vehicles.
In total, there are five different types of conversion - the most common being a Dropside. Converted Transits also come with three front seats, steering-wheel mounted audio controls, and Bluetooth audio streaming.
