Ford Targets Delivery Drivers With Transit Tech That Saves Precious Time
Ford has announced it will integrate clever technology on selected versions of its Transit that is designed to cut down the time it takes for drivers to complete deliveries.
Ford Pro Delivery Assist technology can be configured to automatically turn off the engine, close windows, lock doors and activate hazard lights when a delivery van driver is making stops.
Targeted at the UK’s substantial delivery and courier services, which often require drivers to meet a minimum quota of pick-up and drop-offs per shift, the technology has been developed to delegate many of the manual tasks associated with completing a delivery over to the van itself, thus saving precious seconds.
Moreover, by using Delivery Assist, drivers can tailor the settings to give them peace of mind that the technology will step in as a failsafe should they forget to switch off the engine or leave the machine vulnerable by not closing windows or locking it.
Delivery Assist also simplifies the process of driving away with access granted via its key-free system and the engine being restarted by pressing the brake pedal. It will even restore windows to their previous position.
Hans Schep, General Manager, Ford Pro, Europe, said: “Delivery Assist makes the driver’s to-do list shorter, their journeys more comfortable, and can cut seconds from each delivery stop to help them deliver more parcels, faster.
"It’s good for both our customers and their customers – by taking away lots of tiny tasks we are helping to make a big difference."
For now, Delivery Assist is only available on Transit models equipped with an automatic transmission but can be specified on both electric E-Transit or diesel-powered platforms.
It will be rolled out across the automatic transmission Transit Custom range later in the year.
