Ford vans have officially confirmed that they will bring the bold and bullish Ford Ranger Raptor performance pick-up to the UK, we can expect to see the Ford Ranger Raptor in the UK in early 2019!
Ford Ranger Raptor
Ford vans revealed the bold looking Ford Ranger Raptor pick-up in February this year, without confirming whether or not the pick-up would be coming to the UK, now they have confirmed the Raptor will be coming to our shores early in 2019. The all-American Ford F-150 Raptor has received a phenomenal reaction worldwide and as a result Ford UK have been pushing hard for the pick-up to come to the UK. A spokesperson from Ford vans labelled a performance version of the Ford Ranger as a "natural fit" with the Ranger already leading the pick-up sales charts in the UK.
What's so different about the Raptor?
The Raptor is built in Thailand and has undergone a substantial makeover by Ford Performance, who are responsible for the Ford Focus RS, Ford GT and F-150 Raptor. On the exterior of the pick-up you'll find a new grille, extra ground clearance and LED fog lamps in the front bumper. The bumpers are flared to accommodate the larger wheels of the Raptor, which are mounted on long-travel suspension. The pick-up is designed to go a very long way from the norm, with front bumpers made of composite materials that better withstand the expected dings and dents from the surface, whereas the side steps are built from a tough aluminium alloy with holes in to drain snow, mud and sand.
Inside the Ford Ranger Raptor
The rough and tough feel of the pick-up continues on the inside, with unique seating that is designed to give higher support at high speeds off-road, they also include suede sections to hold occupants in the seats. Ford vans have even included a red stripe on the steering wheel showing which way the wheel is pointing. Even the standard satellite navigation gets an off-road modification, with a "breadcrumb" features that allows the driver to lay a trail and retrace their steps in terrain that is unfamiliar.
Chassis of the Ford Ranger Raptor
The chassis of the Raptor has also been upgraded to handle high-speed use in off-road conditions. The frame is tougher and stiffer as a result, whilst the brakes have also been upgraded. The race-bred suspension has been developed to handle off-road terrain at high speeds, but also offer a comfortable ride on the road. The Raptor also features a unique bash plate underneath and the tyres have been specially developed with a special tread pattern and tough sidewalls, offering grip in sand, snow and mud.
Power of the Ford Ranger Raptor
The Raptor is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine delivering 210ps and a staggering 500Nm of torque, driving the Ranger Raptor through the same ten-speed automatic transmission at the Ford F-150 Raptor. To ensure peak performance in any conditions there are six different driving models, two for use on-road and four for off-road use.
