Citroen e-C3 Van Brings Electric Power To The Commercial Masses
Citroen has revealed it will expand its commercial portfolio to include a van based on the recently launched electric C3 model.
The Citroen e-C3 Van is due to go on sale in April and will bolster a line-up that already includes the top selling Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay models, as well as the cargo version of the Ami quadricycle.
Its introduction is set to spark a revival in the dwindling small car-based van class, a segment that once included commercially modified versions of the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Zoe until they were discontinued.
Crucially, the e-C3 will add another electric option to the sector and do so at a competitive price with only the pint-size Dacia Spring Van – which is smaller and less powerful - able to undercut what Citroen is offering.
The e-C3 Van will see the rear seats and mounts removed to open up 1.2m� of useable space capable of carrying a 494kg payload, while a mesh bulkhead will be used to separate the cargo bay and the driver compartment. Rear windows will also be blacked out.
Beyond that, the e-C3 Van will make use of the same interior design as the passenger model, which means the 10.2-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity will be carried over.
Under the bonnet, the e-C3 van will make use of the more powerful 44kWh version of its passenger equivalent. This allows for around 200 miles of range, potentially more with an empty cargo bay but less when carrying a payload.
The 111bhp engine will be capable of 0-60mph in just over ten seconds and hit a top speed of 82mph.
