In this review, read everything you need to know about the Volkswagen Amarok, and how it could make the perfect pick-up for your business.
So, you’re in need of a pick-up truck. Something robust and practical for heavy-duty work, yet agile and easy to get around in. Introducing the Volkswagen Amarok!
Read on for a review of this fantastic pick-up truck to help you decide whether it’s right for you.
Exterior features and dimensions
Named Pick-up of The Year at the 2024 What Van? Awards, it’s easy to see why the Volkswagen Amarok made the cut.
Measuring 5,350mm long, the latest Amarok is 96mm longer than previous iterations. With a longer wheelbase of 3,270mm, it offers more space in the crew cab as well as an increased slope for better off-road performance.
A fording depth of 800mm means that the new Amarok is now even better when passing through water. It can also tow up to 3.5 tonnes, showing there’s little it can’t do.
With a turning circle of 12.9m, the Volkswagen Amarok is also relatively simple to manoeuvre. Meaning you won’t have to fear tighter drop-offs in busier locations.
Depending on trim, other features include alloy wheels, LED headlamps, and chrome-plated accents. Durable, yet stylish.
Interior cab features
Another thing that makes the Volkswagen Amarok the perfect pick-up truck is its people-focused interior. With modern technology and style, the Amarok delivers on both comfort and practicality.
The driver’s cabin offers a premium set-up with high-quality materials and seamless connectivity. Again, depending on the trim, you’ll receive a 12.3” digital cockpit and features like a heated leather steering wheel – a godsend on the colder days.
The vertical 12” colour touchscreen acts as the centre of connectivity, while USB-A and USB-C ports are on hand for charging devices. Other standard interior features include:
- Harman Kardon sound system with eight loudspeakers
- Background lighting
- Vinyl floor covering
- Sun visors on driver and passenger sides with an illuminated vanity mirror
- Headliner (Stone Grey)
- Reading lights for driver and front passenger with glasses compartments
- Eight-way adjustable driver and passenger seats
Moving up the trims, the Amarok offers several additional features to enhance comfort and convenience. These include dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, leather seats, and more.
Engine performance
Despite its larger size, the Volkswagen Amarok can still pack a punch with a range of powerful diesel engines:
- 170PS 2.0 TDI 6sp Manual 4MOTION
- 205PS 2.0 TDI 10sp Automatic 4MOTION
- I240PS 3.0 TDI 10sp Automatic 4MOTION >
Looking at fuel consumption, figures range from around 27-32mpg, with slightly improved emissions. All models offer a top speed of 112mph.
Driving experience
Getting down to performance is where the Volkswagen Amarok really shines. With adaptable transmission, there’s no journey too complicated, with selectable all-wheel drive.
Preconfigured driving modes come in handy for tackling off-road terrains, as do over 25 assistance systems. Many of these are included as standard, such as:
- Rear Traffic Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control ACC/ACC ‘stop & go’
- ‘Lane Assist’ lane-keeping system
- Electronic parking brake
- Front Assist emergency braking
- Speed Limiter
- Intelligent Speed Assist
From the Style trim upwards, you’ll also receive Park Assist to help make all your manoeuvres simple and stress-free.
Load bay size and accessories
When it comes to loading, the Volkswagen Amarok was made for the job. The load bed measures 1,624mm x 1,584mm, offering ample space to load a Euro pallet crosswise, secured with lashing eyelets.
As for payload, the Amarok offers up to a maximum of 1.1 tonnes. With LED lights fitted in both side walls, you’ll easily be able to see when loading and unloading whatever the time of day.
For added safety, there’s a load/trailer drive mode which helps modify the transmission when carrying heavier loads. This also helps to fine-tune the braking response for maximum control.
To help personalise your Amarok, there is a range of options available. These include wheel arch guards, high-intensity LED driving lights, and the towing kit with a fixed towbar.
There’s also a range of load area and protection accessories to help keep your pick-up in good nick. These include a manual roll cover, hardtop, and all-weather floor mats. Not to mention a range of seasonal accessories for the winter.
