2025 Renault Master: Everything You Need To Know

If the UK has the Ford Transit and Germany has the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, then France most definitely has the Renault Master.
A stalwart of the LCV (large commercial vehicle) segment, the Master has been in service as Renault’s largest van offering since 1980.
And yet, though you can trace the nameplate back some 45 years now, in that time Renault has launched only four generations of the Master, the most recent of which came in 2024.
So, it stands to reason that the launch of a new Renault Master is quite a big deal - but as the latest version shows, it turns out you can move the game along quite significantly...
What Is New About The 2025 Renault Master?
Quite a lot, in fact. We’ll start on the exterior, which gains a fresh design utilising the signatures shared with Renault’s passenger car models, like the Scenic, Megane and Austral.
While Renault hasn’t tried to reinvent the wheel, the Master boasts a bold new front fascia to firmly separate it from the previous generation. The design isn’t all about form though, it also serves an important function.
In fact, the Renault Master has undergone rigorous wind tunnel testing designed to improve aerodynamics and efficiency, all without sacrificing that necessary mass for cargo space.
The overhaul has also seen Renault endow the new Master – which the manufacturer dubs the ‘Aerovan’ - with a high-tech, ergonomic interior with an emphasis on safety, while it has also been designed from the outset to integrate an electric drivetrain more seamlessly.
Better still, you have the choice of both the Renault Master and the Nissan Interstar, the latter of which was given a major update in line with its sister version.
2025 Renault Master: Dimensions, Trims & Body Styles
Length: 5681mm (L2), 6311mm (L3)
Height: 2500mm (H2), 2780mm (H3)
Wheelbase: 3585mm (L2), 4215 (L3)
Payload: 1905-1971kg (Turbodiesel), 1547-1625kg (Electric)
Cargo Capacity: 10,800 litres (L2/H2), 13,000 (L3/H2), 14,800 (L3/H3)
Towing Capacity: 2500kg (Turbodiesel), 1000-1500kg (Electric)
As is to be expected for Renault’s flagship van, the Master can be configured in multiple body styles depending on what you need.
That means the 2025 Renault Master is available as a panel van, crew cab, chassis cab, Luton box van, dropside and tipper van.
As a panel van, the Master is available in L2H2, L3H2, L3H3 sizes offering 10,800, 13,000 and 14,800 litres of cargo space. This is an increase on its predecessor and larger than that offered by the Ford Transit, but down on what is available in the vast Iveco Daily.
Payload capacities vary depending on whether you choose the turbodiesel version or the electric variant. In turbodiesel guise, the Master can lug up to 1971kg, the electric managing 1625kg.
By incorporating a smaller battery than most large EV van rivals, the Master E-Tech therefore affords a more generous payload capacity than other models in the class, while the turbodiesel version is significantly better than that of the equivalent Transit.
By having a 100mm longer load area, the Master also benefits from a wider sliding door aperture, while the upright bulkhead allows boxes to be stacked more effectively.
Moreover, the Master is filled with cubby holes and pockets capable of storing an impressive 135-litres around the cockpit area.
This includes dashtop storage, under-seat storage and even a large cubby beneath the backrest of the middle seat. As well as using the folded middle seat as a storage area, the backrest can also double as a flat surface or ‘mobile office’ on the move.
2025 Renault Master: Engine, Performance & Drivetrains
2.0-litre Turbodiesel (129bhp, 148bhp, 168bhp)
87kWh Electric (138bhp)
Renault has made a lot of noise about the improved aerodynamics of the new Master, the French firm crediting a total re-design for it cutting through the air with 20 per cent less drag than the previous model.
Four power options are available – three turbodiesel and one electric.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Blue dCi turbodiesel can be selected in three different power bands: 130, 150 and 170.
Vastly improved emissions figures help to keep running costs amenable, particularly compared with rivals, while there is also the option of an ‘Eco’ mode which reduces engine power by 30 per cent in an effort to maximise fuel economy.
Significantly, the new Master has been developed with an electric drivetrain at its heart – named E-Tech – and it represents a significant improvement over its slower, short-range-addled predecessor.
Indeed, whereas the outgoing model could only manage 125 miles on a measly 76bhp, the 2025 Renault Master E-Tech benefits from an 87kWh battery generating 138bhp.
Despite the sizeable boost in power, the Master E-Tech launches to the top of the electric van class with an impressive range of 285-miles. As a comparison, the Ford E-Transit manages 249-miles, the Citroen e-Relay tops out at 261-miles and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter can go to 273-miles.
Renault credits the impressive efficiency to having a more slippery shape, as well as heat-shield technology designed to keep the battery in peak condition.
Better still, the Master E-Tech comes with 22kW capability for home charging, meaning a 0-100% recharge in around four hours. A DC rapid charger, however, will add 140 miles of range in 30 minutes.
2025 Renault Master: Interior, Specification & Features
The 2025 Renault Master has received a full overhaul inside with the interior benefiting from a re-designed fascia and generous specification.
Inspired by its heavy-goods trucks, the Master features an ergonomic S-shaped dashboard to make the interior feel more spacious and more forgiving in terms of knee room when its three-seat layout is utilised.
The logically laid out dashboard is dominated by a 10.1-inch infotainment screen that houses Google-based software and incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while E-Tech models get a digital driver’s display.
Two trim levels are available – Advance and Extra – with both offering a full range of safety and comfort features.
Opt for the Advance and you’ll receive air-conditioning, six-way adjustable drivers’ seat, electric windows, 12V plug inside the cabin, electric door mirrors, cruise control, active emergency braking, peripheral alarm, booster emergency braking, driver attention warning, unstable trajectory alert, rear parking sensors and lane keep assist.
Upgrade to the Extra trim and it will add 10-inch R-Link touchscreen with Google built-in, premium seat fabrics, LED load area lighting and front fog lights.
