2025 KGM Musso: Everything You Need To Know

The KGM Musso is one of the newer additions to the pick-up truck fraternity as the brand attempts to apply its renowned off-roading know-how into a practical, load lugger that will lure buyers away from traditional favourites.
Boasting a striking design, generous kit levels and unstoppable go-anywhere ability, the KGM Musso is a great value alternative to rivals such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
Is KGM a new brand?
No, KGM is not a ‘new’ brand per se, but the name certainly is.
If you know your motors, then you’ll likely be aware that the Musso had been on sale for some years under SsangYong branding. Today, however, it is sold under the KGM nameplate in a nod to KG Motors, which assumed ownership of SsangYong ahead of an entire rebrand in 2023.
As one of the older models in the KGM range, the Musso continues to wear the same insignia as the erstwhile SsangYong brand but this will change later in the year when a new generation model is launched.
Even before the rebrand, SsangYong was a relatively young brand for the UK in mainstream terms. First launched back in 1994 – when the Musso nameplate adorned a large SUV – SsangYong dusted off the moniker for the latest version of its pick-up in 2018, accumulating a loyal following on the strength of its lavish interior complemented by its rugged underpinnings.

The KGM Musso is available only in a five seat, double cab format, meaning it will sacrifice some load bay space compared with the handful of single cab pick-up trucks also available.
Nevertheless, at more than five metres long, the Musso is sizeable vehicle, which translates to a capacious load bed measuring 1300mm in length, 1570mm wide and at a depth of 570mm.
While it lacks a single cab option, the Musso can however be specified in standard trim or with a long wheelbase, which extends the load area further and enables it to lug more weight.
As such, length extends to 5405mm, gross vehicle weight rises to 3400kg and towing capacity improves to 3500kg.
Indeed, it is the Musso’s impressive towing ability that has helped to curry particular favour with communities that regularly winch a caravan or low loader to their vehicles. The 3500kg towing capacity of the LWB Musso is one of the largest of any vehicle, making it particularly enticing for those who regularly need to haul an attachment.
From the inside, the Musso offers plenty of head and legroom for passengers, ensuring a spacious feeling befitting of an SUV.
2025 KGM Musso: Engine, Performance & Drivetrains
2.2-litre Turbodiesel (199bhp)
Under the bonnet, the KGM Musso makes do with a single engine option: a 2.2-litre diesel generating 199bhp.
With underpinnings borrowed from the Rexton large SUV, the Musso shares similar traits in that it majors in pulling power with 400Nm of torque arriving nice and low in the rev range – particularly handy if you regularly venture off road or are pulling a heavy weight.
While the Musso isn’t fast, it does come with the option of a six-speed automatic transmission designed to make long haul driving more relaxing and ensure a more refined motorway experience.
One standout feature of the Musso is its vast 75-litre fuel tank, which allows for a diesel fuel range of just under 500 miles between fill-ups.
In manual trim, the Musso generates 255g/km of CO2, rising to 308g/km for the automatic version. It is these figures that are needed to be taken into account from 6 April 2025 when pick-up trucks will no longer be classed as commercial vehicles in regard to Benefit-In-Kind (BiK) company car tax. From this date, the annual BiK rate will be based on CO2 emissions.
