In terms of payload, the Citroen Relay L2 H1 140ps van is the winner, with the range's highest payload. Cargo of up to 1,570kg can be accommodated.

4. Peugeot Boxer Large Van

 

If the Peugeot Boxer looks pretty similar to the Citroen Relay, that's because it is very similar. And, like its Citroen counterpart, the Boxer is ideal for transporting the heaviest, most challenging loads. Equally, both models share a similar body, so it's not that surprising that the Boxer L2 H1 140ps van is identical to the equivalent in the Citroen line-up.

3. Fiat Ducato Large Van

 

The Fiat Ducato is based, as mentioned, on the same platform as the Relay and the Boxer. And it used to lead the way when it came to payload volume. But following a number of mechanical alterations, the maximum cargo on this large Fiat van has dropped by 50kg in favour of a hugely enhanced engine and transmission line-up. Nonetheless, you still get a not unimpressive top payload of 1,605kg on SH1 35 vans in this line-up.

2. Renault Master Large Van

 

The Renault Master misses out on the top spot by just 10kg. The FWD SM35 130ps model of the Master is a large van offering a massive max payload of 1,610kg, plus there's a load volume of up to 17 cubic metres available in the biggest vehicles in the range. That's the equivalent of up to five Euro palettes, on one of the segment's biggest vans.

1. Vauxhall Movano Large Van

 

Constructed on the same platform as the Renault Master, the best large van for sale in the UK in terms of payload, we reckon, is currently the Vauxhall Movano. It just squeaks past the Master with that 10kg payload advantage, mainly due to the spec of both vans. The 1,620kg payload is offered even on the entry-level Movano, the 3500 FWD L1 H1 Edition model.
